“That evening, the defendant shorted Padilla $20 in tips he was owed, and an argument broke out between the men that would end Elvin Padilla’s life. “Thirty-seven-year-old Elvin Padilla called out sick on July 16, 2020, but after learning of a staff shortage, the dedicated employee took the shift – it would be the last he would ever work,” said DA Donnelly. The defendant faces up to 25 years in prison when he is sentenced on March 16, 2023. The trial began on January 24, 2023, and the jury delivered their verdict on the second day of deliberations on January 31, 2023. Donnelly announced that a waiter at a Hicksville restaurant was convicted at trial yesterday of Manslaughter for the stabbing death of his co-worker, a busboy at the eatery, after the two argued over tips in July 2020.ĭavid Jimenez Salazar, 25, of Farmingdale, was convicted after a jury trial before Judge Howard Sturim of Manslaughter in the First Degree (a B felony). We would go back there when/if we are back in the area.David Jimenez-Salazar stabbed 37-year-old Elvin Padilla in the neck with broken liquor bottle and killed him Non-Peruvians must understand that the meal is not going to be rushed. She said she was born in Peru and came to the U.S. Our waitress spoke unaccented English and Spanish and spoke to my wife and me in the appropriate language. While I speak no Spanish, my wife is obviously fluent. I was the only non-Hispanic there as far as I could tell. The first thing that struck us was that there was Peruvian music playing with a DJ and the diners were of all ages and especially a lot of families. I suspect the negative reviews are from people not familiar with Peruvian restaurants and the culture involved. The restaurant is in a strip mall and, while nothing fancy, it is a pretty authentic Peruvian restaurant. My wife is originally from Peru and we decided to see if there were any Peruvian restaurants locally and found La Candela. We happened to be down on Long Island for a family funeral. I truly advise whoever is reading this to stay at La Candela, and I hope you find it as beautiful as I did. The experience was incredible, and even though I accidentally threw my phone into the ocean, La Candela was still an extremely happy memory for me. Hugo Arévalo even showed us one of his Pablo Neruda documentaries that he made while traveling with the famous poet in the early 70s. It brought history alive for us, letting us know more about Chile than we can read in books. Afterwards, she talked with us, telling us the story of her life, her friendship with Pablo Neruda, and highlights from her career. Charo Cofré performed for our group, and her voice was incredible. But the food wasn't the highlight of the trip, the best part was meeting Charo Cofré and Hugo Arévalo. The wait staff was incredible, seeming to know what I wanted before I did. I'm a picky eater, and even I loved the food. I stayed for a night at La Candela, having two meals there, and I already want to visit there again. When I first arrived at La Candela, I didn't really know what to expect, but now I wouldn't exchange that experience for anything. When the waiter went to tell the manager the manager in Spanish said " that's what they ordered ". Bill came and they added more items to it. The light hit me directly in the eye and we had to tell them to move the apparatus over. They had Disney channel and salsa playing (salsa would've been ok, don't think adults at 6 pm want to see Disney ) and laser lights going on like it was a club. Boyfriends dish was fish and that was too salty. So I didn't want to fight and they brought me out chicken and rice plate, both were dry. Well, I've never been in a place that said that to me. Called the waiter over to have it exchanged (had one bite ) and he said he could get me something different but that the plate was " made so he had to charge " me. First - Ceviche was lackluster and bland. What was to come was that I was disappointed to say the least. Nice quaint location that appeared to be neat. Came into this restaurant with my boyfriend for a dinner.
